Our Research Focus

Research is vital to the maintenance of cutting-edge knowledge in any discipline. As the ‘Knowledge Centre’ for Logistics and Supply Chain Management at Victoria University, ILSCM maintains its expertise, enhances that knowledge and sustains its position at the leading edge of Logistics and Supply Chain Management development in Australia. To this end, ILSCM considers that Logistics and Supply Chain Management research be grounded in ‘real world’ application; the ultimate objective of which is the improvement of logistics and supply chain performance. As a result, ILSCM is the first 'Port of Call' where companies, relevant professional organisations, educational institutes and Government departments in Australia can look for research support and leadership in relation to Logistics and Supply Chain Management issues.

ILSCM objective is to be the academic partner of choice for cutting-edge, practically oriented research and global practices in Logistics and Supply Chain Management. To this end, ILSCM will initiate the Supply Chain Logistics Management Research Network where participants from various institutes, both academic and industry, are invited to 'harvest' Logistics and Supply Chain research across Australia. The main objectives of the network will be to facilitate the identification of relevant research generation, the promotion and dissemination of research findings and the identification and pursuit of potential funding sources.

The major benefits of benchmarking for companies are the understanding, simplification and improvement of processes, products and practices, using benchmark indicators. The Institute intends to make a significant contribution for Logistics in Australia through the development of Logistics related Benchmark indicators.

In its research, the Institute for Logistics and Supply Chain Management (ILSCM) will support an industry sector that:

• has a strong presence in the region and is strategically important to other industries and the economic development of the geographic regions where ILSCM has a presence
  
• has been identified as having significant employment growth opportunities both within the State and nationally
